Three grate widths
75 cm for smaller gardens and tight corners, 90 cm for most lawns, and 115 cm for open ground. The same tool on the same handle.
Lawn Level Company Canada sells a stainless steel lawn levelling rake in three grate widths, plus the edging, tools and accessories that finish the job. Shipped across Canada.
Our stainless steel grate rake drags top dressing into the low spots of a lawn. Around it we sell edging to hold a clean line, and the tools and accessories that make the work easier.
75 cm for smaller gardens and tight corners, 90 cm for most lawns, and 115 cm for open ground. The same tool on the same handle.
The grate and the handle are 304 stainless steel, made to resist rust in wet ground and a damp shed.
The 1.8 m (6 ft) handle lets you pull from the shoulder instead of bending over a short rake, which matters on a big lawn.
Drag it over top dressing and the grate fills the hollows and scrapes the humps down, so the lawn finishes level with the tips of the grass.
Plastic, stainless steel and corten steel edging, plus stone effect bed borders, to keep grass out of the beds and mulch off the lawn.
A rolling edger, a manual tiller, a thatching rake, a soil sampler and a compost spreader, with the spikes, mallet and gloves to go with them.
The levelling rake up close, and the edging we sell alongside it.

Achieving a smooth, level lawn requires the right tools, and the lawn leveling rake is one of the most essential items in your toolkit. Whether you’re filling in uneven spots, spreading soil, or ensuring a perfectly flat surface, a lawn leveller rake is designed to help you achieve professional results. In this post, we’ll explore why a lawn level rake is a must-have tool for maintaining a beautiful lawn and how to use it effectively for optimal results.
A lawn leveling rake is a specialised tool designed to spread and level soil, sand, or topdressing material evenly across your lawn. Unlike traditional rakes, a lawn leveller rake has a wide, flat design that allows you to pull materials across the lawn surface, filling in low spots and smoothing out bumps. This creates a more even lawn, which not only improves the appearance of your yard but also makes it easier to maintain.
Using a lawn leveller rake ensures that you distribute soil or sand evenly across your yard, helping to fill in any uneven areas. Over time, lawns can develop bumps, dips, and uneven patches due to heavy foot traffic, erosion, or natural settling of the ground. A lawn level rake makes it easier to correct these imperfections, resulting in a flat, even surface. This tool is particularly useful when performing tasks like overseeding, adding topsoil, or preparing your lawn for new sod.
Using a lawn level rake is straightforward, but for the best results, it’s important to follow the proper steps:
Prepare your lawn: Start by mowing the grass to a shorter length and watering it lightly to soften the soil. This makes it easier to spread the material across the surface.
Apply your topdressing material: Whether you’re using sand, soil, or a mixture, spread the material across the low areas of your lawn.
Use the lawn leveller rake: Gently pull the lawn leveling rake across the surface to distribute the material evenly, filling in dips and smoothing out bumps. Use a back-and-forth motion for best results.
Repeat as needed: You may need to add more topdressing material and continue leveling until the lawn surface is even.
By using a lawn leveller rake, you can easily achieve a perfectly flat lawn that’s ready for seeding, watering, and future maintenance.
There are several advantages to using a lawn leveller rake for your yard maintenance:
Precision leveling: A lawn level rake allows for more precise control over the distribution of soil or sand, ensuring an even spread across the entire surface.
Improved lawn health: A level lawn promotes better water drainage and helps your grass grow more evenly, reducing the risk of pooling water in low areas.
Efficient topdressing: Whether you’re adding a thin layer of topsoil or filling in deeper depressions, a lawn leveller rake makes the process faster and more efficient.
When shopping for a lawn level rake, consider the size and material of the tool. A wider rake will cover more surface area, making the task quicker for larger lawns. Additionally, look for a lawn leveller rake made from durable materials such as stainless steel or aluminium, ensuring it lasts for many seasons. A well-made rake will provide the strength needed to handle heavier materials while remaining lightweight enough for easy handling.
The best time to use a lawn level rake is during the growing season, typically in spring or early autumn. This is when your grass is most resilient and can recover quickly from the leveling process. After periods of heavy rain or during lawn renovation projects, using a lawn leveller rake can help restore your lawn’s even surface and improve its overall appearance and health.
A lawn leveling rake is an essential tool for anyone looking to create a smooth, even lawn. Whether you’re filling in low spots, preparing for new sod, or performing general lawn maintenance, a lawn leveller rake ensures that your lawn is perfectly level. With its ability to distribute soil and topdressing material evenly, this tool helps improve your lawn’s appearance and health.
Invest in a lawn level rake today and enjoy the benefits of a well-maintained, level lawn that’s the envy of your neighbourhood!
All three sizes are the same tool in a different width. A narrower grate is easier to steer around beds, paths and trees; a wider one covers more ground with each pass. 75 cm suits smaller gardens and tight corners, 90 cm suits most home lawns, and 115 cm is for open ground.
Keep each layer thin. About 3 mm is enough if you are top dressing for the health of the lawn, and no more than 10 mm if you are filling low spots. Deeper hollows are filled in stages, letting the grass recover in between. A 20 kg bag of top dressing mix covers about 5 square metres.
Level while the grass is growing strongly, in spring or early fall, so it grows back through the dressing quickly. Mow first, spread the dressing in small piles, and drag the rake over it until you can see the tips of the grass poking through. Then water it in.
Edging keeps grass out of beds and mulch off the lawn. The plastic edging kit bends by hand and pegs in with a mallet, with no trench. Stainless steel and corten steel give a thinner, cleaner line but want a spade line cut first. Corten is meant to weather to a rust coloured finish and can mark pale paving while it does. The stone effect bed border sections tap into the ground one piece at a time.
A 5 cm face keeps grass out of a flat bed. Go to 10 cm where there is a mulch layer to hold back, and 15 cm or 20 cm where the edge holds back a change of level. The deeper the face, the more digging it takes.
Measure along the line the edging will follow, going round every curve, rather than straight across the bed. A hose laid along the route and then measured is the easiest way to do it. Add a little for joins, then order that many metres.
